Hey RC,

Thanks for reading. Since this is the most concentrated place of smart people I know (yeah, really says something about the kinda people I hang with :D ) thought it might be a good idea to get some input.

So I saw this baby for a great deal and thought I would buy - but it seems too cheap to be worth it...

Plasma

Any suggestions? Has anyone recently purchased a Plasma at a great price?

Thanks again!!

Josh

I half expected this to be about blood plasma. They have places for that. They'll buy your plasma, and even give you cookies. :D

Yeah? :p Well I need to buy some blood plasma. I figure with the cost of health care these days I would just start obtaining my own treatment on the black market.

If you can, I would go with a 42" or 50" plasma 1080p panasonic. Costco is a great place to buy it. It just cost a few hundred bucks more, but it is totally a smart buy. We are slowing converting ourself to blu-ray and the only way to have the maximun output of a blu-ray is with the resolution of 1080p. Of course you would need a blu-ray player too. Trust me, you won't regret getting a 1080p. If you have anymore questions, you can pm me. Good luck with your buy, and Panasonic is one of the top brand for plasma.

Agree with above, IMo 1080p it will be awesome on blu and hd dvd, but on hd tv channels you can always go with 720p since it will be years for TV to be 1080p. Depending how far you watch your TV you won't feel a difference from 720p to 1080p. Go to AVforums and check it out, they have a lot of discussion there.
Costco is an excellent place to buy since their guarantee is amazing. Have a friend bought a TV and after 6 months returned with no problem.

1080p on a screen smaller than 46" is basically a waste. You can test this for yourself with a test signal that displays 1080 lines. Up close you'll be able to see the individual lines. Step 3 or 4 feet away (which is normal viewing distance) and your eyes blur the lines together.

Also, noone broadcasts HD in 1080p. It's either 1080i or 720p. So unless you watch a lot of Blu-Rays, 1080p will be basically wasted.

The true benchmark for HD TV's is black levels and contrast. Basically, if a TV can render truly black blacks, then the colors will pop much more and look much better.

So if you're buying an HDTV smaller than 46" and you're on a budget, be more concerned about contrast and black levels than 1080p. ou'll end up happier that way....

That said, I just bought a 42" 1080p Panasonic Plasma for my bedroom. Best of both worlds since it tested as having the deepest blacks of any tv out there and it was on sale at Costco.com for $1100. Can't beat that.

costco changed their return policy on expensive electronics. I think it's only like 90 days now.

get it from sams club...they still have the 100% satisfaction guarantee. can't beat that anywhere.
