Thought i would finally share some pics as the brown Gig is finally at the 5 month mark and doing wonderfully. Was bought with a tight mouth great colour and strong feeding response. Never had an issue with him inflating deflating like the yellow one we lost about 9 months ago. Just recently in the last 3 days we added a baby 2inch purple gigantea. I am hoping we will have the same outsome and it not take the other out:)
The Purple guy is the same as when i bought the brown. Tight mouth, very sticky, great colour and incredible feeding response as we'll. Has yet to deflat and hasn't moved from where i put him. Tentacles are getting longer by the day:)

Tank is a 35 gallon Solona with a 250 watt 12k reeflux bulb in a lumenarc reflector.
Flow is provided by an upgraded return pump and a seio powerhead. Although the brown nem will move to the lowest area of flow so he is just kinda rocking back and forth. Doesn't matter how i put the flow thats just what he does. will be getting the nano vortex when it comes out and we will see how he likes that:)

Very nice. Your brown gigantea looks exactly like mine. Mines about 17"-18" though... except I have been feeding it about 3-4 times a week for the last three months and it has been growing fast. I hope things go well with the purple gig. looks good so far!

Thank-you i am very pleased with the brown one. I noticed today that the browns tentacles are getting a pinky purple hugh to the tips of them..:)
I have been feeding him twice a week plus he gets some mysis everyday that he catches and the clowns bring to it. I think i will back off on the feeding to once a week as he has gotten way bigger in the last 5 months:)

I am crossing my fingers the purple guy does just as we'll.:)

Good work, hooray for gig success stories!

Here is a pic of my purple when I got it it was about 3 inches across and a pic of it now a week before my tank move.

It is now about 8 inches across and I feed it every other day two cubes of rinsed mysis or polychete worms.

Nice!. It wont be long and it looks as if that 35 will be wall to wall carpet :D .

I have a 3'x3'x16" tank that I am thinking of doing the same with.. its about 100 gal and figurerd Id toss in 20+ onyx or so. I dont think I want to use either of the 2 giganteas that I have though because they already host pairs, but instead, get 3-4 new ones ( I wonder if thats possible)

I know i am starting to think this may have been a bad idea to put him in there...lol
I have backed off on the feedings with the brown one as he has really just got to big fast and trying to convince my husband for an upgrade will take a few months!!!

After the reading i have done on here lately i am sure hoping i didn't doom either of them putting them in together. So far there is no issues but after all the stress from that they give us i would like not to lose either but most definetly not the brown as i think he is truly a healthy specimen and has been been from the begginning!!

I think it would be very cool to see that many clowns in there. I would love to put another pair in there for the purplr at some point. But my female clown thinks she has a vacation home now so i am thinking it wouldn't go over very we'll for someone else to move in..:)

Ha ha less than 5 months!, I feed every other dat though.

I got mine at a local store in Calgary!!
Not the best store by any means but for some reason they are getting in healthy gigs. My theory on this is they sit there for weeks as no one really thinks to shop there for them. So a few weeks into it they are either healthy enough to keep going and worth the try or they aren't.

They were both extremly healthy when i got them.
The purple today is looking even better than yesterday. It is more unfolded and tentacles are getting longer. Mouth is still closed and tight and he grabbed some mysis from the water today as we'll.

Fingers crossed!!!

Do you guys think you are successful because they are the only species of anemone in the tank? Every time I see someone put a gigantea with a different species of anemone, the gigantea dies.

I dunno if thats the entire reason. I think honestly its luck of the draw..:)
You either get a healthy one or you don't. And if you do get a healthy one than the ability to care for it properly comes into acct as we'll.
I know i myself would not put one in with another species. But that is just me. To risky for me to handle..!!

These two are my third and forth gig...The first yellow one i got was doomed from day one i think. It never had a feeding response and deflated daily. It lasted 4 months and then kicked it on me. The second purple one was healthy and happy but we had issues when we moved and he just spent to much time stressed!

So i think the chemical warfare etc may have some to do with some maybe!!
But i know the health of them coming in is the leading cause of success or failure:)

Mine are not really the only species... Yes, right now they are in separate tanks, but they share a common sump, and at times have shared tanks with other species

I have my gigantea in a 40 gal breeder with two 8" rose bubble tip anemone and the gigantea has stayed perfectly healthy the whole time. So I guess not.

hey, adtravels, it looks like your tank's a barebottom, and your carpet's on the rocks...how's it liking it there? I always thought carpets, both haddoni and gigantea, were sand dwelling guys

oh good mine isn't the only one that stands up like that:)
250 watt halide over a 35 gallon cube and it still stands up....lol

p.s both of mine are on the rocks as we'll...i tried putting them in the sand but the wanted to go on the rocks:)

Mine Stands Up Everymorning
