Our 375g reef tank build & fish room

After talking to some of our local reefers about a CLS, I'm not sure on what to do. I like the idea of a CLS for the flow and the ability to do a water change out. Any suggestion on a easier way to do the water change outs?

Since we are going to build the fish room we want to automate the system as much as possible.

OK, it has taken a long time to begin this adventure:smokin:
The plans for the new fish room will be drawn up next week, then we have to have our ARC approve the room addition ( which should not be a problem) and then the drawing go to permitting for approval. I'm guessing all this will take about 3 weeks.:eek1:

I will order the new tank, stand which will be steel and powder coated and sump next week.

Our LFS has some great rock cooking now.

After the new room gets closed in, We will set up the new tank to start cycling.

I will be going bare bottom on the new system.

I know I will not be able to add my fish (only 12 ) right away,
I plan on using as much sand from exsiting system for the refugium, and I will use appx. 75 gals.
of water from my exsiting tank to jump stat the cycling process.
I also plan on using my exsiting rock.

I know, 75 gallons of water is not a lot on a 375 gallon system. :eek1:

My question for today is: how soon will I be able to add the corals?

Great build edandsandy, cant wait to see this come to life!

Are you going to let Ed keep some angels in the new reef?

I'm not that familiar with angels, are these guys reef friendly?
looks like Ed has to do some research on these guys :)

CAD drawings are now being made to send to our ARC committee and then to the county.:D

Looks like we should break ground in about 2-3 weeks.:D

I have not ordered the tank or stand yet in fear of our ARC approval.
It should't be a problem :eek1:

Ed said just be patience, I don't want to have a tank that size just sitting around.

We finally got the ARC approval to start our fish room :dance:

Today the GC will go to the building department to drop off the plans :celeb3:

looks like we are on the schedule to start next week Wednesday

Can't wait to hear more...

I'm watching this one closely. Our tank should be done by months end. We're putting in a closed loop from OM.

Who is building your tank?

thanks Dave,
glass cages,
who is building yours?

Miracles Aquariums in Toronto Canada is building ours. Our original plan for a big tank was squashed when AFY went bankrupt with a rather large sum of our money.....but we finally got over that and went with this other builder.

Make sure you take plenty of pics as your construction proceeds.
You've got quite the project started!!

Dave,
I'm so sorry to hear about your loss!
also I'm truly glad that one detrimental experience didn't stop the passion you have for your tank.

We acquired the county's approval on the fish room!

we begin the construction tomorrow, :bounce2:
(weather permitting)

I'm glad to hear that. I have been following this thread for a while now so I'm glad to see that its moving forward again, and I can't wait to see the many pictures that are sure to come :)

Well we broke ground yesterday! the GC said they should be done in about 3 weeks! I will order the new tank on Monday!

After breaking ground, I went back to the drawing board on the lay out of the fish room with the GC. The room looked different on paper than the actual size of the room. The room will stay the same size, (thank goodness $$$$$) We are going to install a pocket door instead of a regular door to help save a little space. We are not going with a counter top along the entire north wall now, the north wall will have a sink and 2 separate counter tops. So we have appx. 5-1/2' of space to work in behind the tank. We also decided to move one of the sinks to the west wall of the room since we will now have a pocket door and put the counter top along the entire west wall. The east wall will have a set of french doors so we can bring in the tank, stand and any other big equipment as needed.
