Our 375g reef tank build & fish room

Yes, they are 2 sets butted up to each other.
We purchased them from McMaster-Carr:
2 Sets 1223A22
Roller Track Set for Bypassing Door 150-lb Cap, 8' L Track, for 1-3/8"-1-3/4" Thk Doors

Sandy,

My lights have to slide to the rear (rather than to the side) because the front of the tank will extend through the wall about 8" into the viewing room. (That way you can partially see the tank from the sides...)
Something like this:

So when you order a "set", are you getting (2) 8 foot rails? If so, it looks like I can get by with one set, unless I want a third rail to support thecenter of an 8 foot wide light frame.

One last thing. Can you or Ed create one of those cool CAD diagrams like you used in the early pages of the thread, to depict the final plumbing system. I am really interested in your water change system. It really looks unique and one to replicate.

Thanks,

LL

Yes, you are getting a "set" like you use for a pocket door, top and bottom rails. We purchased 2 sets (4 rails) because we built our light rack in 2 sections. The racks move independently.

This is 1 set of lights.

I wish I could take credit for the cool CAD diagrams, Ed Reef receives all the credit for the drawings.

Do you have specific questions regarding the RO/Salt Water change system? Also you can call Ed any time. Let me know if you would like his cell#.

Your build looks awesome!

I can't wait until we get a house so that we can run a big tank with a dedicated fish room. Having a reef in an apartment is not the most practical of endeavors...the fish room is our kitchen/dining room. :)

Thank you,
We have really enjoyed the fish room, our old fish room was our laundry room, and Ed had a habit of washing his hands or equipment in our kitchen sink UGGGGHHHHH!
Not like we didn't have a sink in the laundry room, he would always say "this sink is closer" :rolleye1: :rolleye1: :rolleye1:

Sandy
I have a laundry sink in my equipment room and it sure stinks to high heaven when I wash the skimmer cup. I couldn't imagine what it would be like in the kitchen.

Ed really got in TROUBLE for cleaning the skimmer's collection cup in the kitchen! Needless to say, he didn't clean the cup in the kitchen sink EVER again

I enjoyed reading your log. It gave me some ideas on what to do for my next build when the time comes.

Thank you and we're glad you enjoyed our thread. If you have any questions, we're happy to share what we have learned :D

A cool idea...

A cool idea...

Yours is such a neat build thread, it would be cool if you could do an "index" so visitors could quickly find important topics in your thread history... (I'm not complaining, because every time I search for something, I stumble across something I missed before...)

Ed and Sandy,

I just ordered the pocket door rails for our light track...great idea!

What size aluminum tubing did you use for your light rack? And where did Ed get those connectors? They look like real time savers!

Thanks.

Looking good. That rail and connector system is really nice, and also easy to put together -- "even a caveman could do it". :p

Sorry for the delay in answering your questions :o
We purchased the tubing and connectors from:

http://www.eztube.com/aluminum_tube/aluminum_tube.html

If you are going to use lights like our you will need the tubing with the "fins"

Product Number: 100-120-4
Product Name: Single Fin for 1/4" Flush Panel - 4 Ft. Length

and

Product Number: 100-150-4
Product Name: 2-Way Fin for 1/4" Flush Panel - 4 Ft. Length

the connectors we used
Product Number: 100-304-C
Product Name: 3-Way Black Flat Connector-

and

Product Number: 100-312-C
Product Name: 4-Way Flat Black Connector-

hope that helps........

Who are you calling a "CAVEMAN" !!!!!

The first rack was a bit harder than the second rack.....

you just have to be careful when you connect the rails together, it is very difficult, if not impossible to pull apart, you have to assemble it in such a way and think it through before you just put it together,
