Our reef wrasses

no nipping that I noticed, although there are no acros in the tank, only various other SPS, and only 1 clam, a T.Deresa. It periodically nips around the corals and clam, but appears to be focused on the algae growing around them, and on the shell, etc. Even when it nips around the Deresa, the calm doesn't react or retract, that is why I don't think the angel is actually nipping at the clam. I have yet to move a crocea or maxima into the tank to see how the angel fares with a more "frilly" clam.

no, a red margin fairy, but I am wanting a rhomboid... they are awesome looking fish, but that will have to wait until I get the new tank up and running. This "new" guy happened because he happened to come into an LFS near us, was eating and doing well so I couldn't pass him up :D

Every time I see the picture of your Lineatus, it makes me sad. Mine jump from the opening I had to feed the fish last week and landed on the covering that was suppose to keep him in the tank. I hope my other wrasses don't do the same.

fairies get spooked so easily. Lineatus more then others IME. everytime i put my hands in the vat where they are they all jump around.. lol really funny to watch, but i always get paranoid one will jump and i wont notice!

My Red Hooded Wrasse jumped last week through the egg create I had on top. I removed the egg create and will take my chances with the open top. I won't get anymore nice wrasses until I figure out a way to keep them in.

That is an Ornate Wrasse, often sold as a Christmas Wrasse (but beware as there are several fish sold under the common name of Christmas Wrasse)

they are safe with the larger shrimp (IE: peppermint, cleaner, etc), at least in my experiences they have been. I think we paid around $29. They are regularly imported from the Hawaii islands general region.

nice... i think i know whats going in next ;-)

If you have a place you can order using their latin names (to be sure to get the right fish) it is a halichoeres ornatissimus.

A couple of notes is that it prefers (think it might actually need) a sand bed to hide and sleep in, otherwise it could become overly stressed to the point of death. Also, they are poor shippers/poor acclimators (they arrive fine and alive, but within a couple of days die "mysteriously"), but once accilmated into your tank they are a very hardy fish.

Some of that info is from our experiences and some if from reading tons of threads and articles on the net before purchasing one.

Best of luck to you :)

P.S. They are known for their "pest control" skills as well. But bear in mind that not all halichoeres get along, so if you already have one, alot will depend on what it is and how big your tank is.

I used to have a royal flasher but the poor guy just dissapeared... no idea where he went-didnt see him anywhere around the tank or anything... that fish was so AWESOME

Maybe at a smaller size, but adults can take down any shrimp we toss at em ;)
