Right now I have about 390 GPH going, about 20x turnover. I do have a protein skimmer, it's a BakPak. I'm not using RO/DI water. There is nowhere to hook it up at my house. I am using a tap water filter, I know it's not great, but it's batter than tap. So, it could be the water now that you mentioned it, I didn't even think of that.

Brett and I just picked up a phosban reactor. Has anyone seen any difference in their corals during the first week or so of it's use? The lfs said to use only 1/2 the phosphate stuff at first as it might cause bleaching of the corals.
We also picked up our final fish, a red-spotted hawkfish. He's too cute!!! We'll get some pictures of Hawkeye and Neo (the yellowhead wrasse) as soon as I can convince Brett to take them. He's better with the camera than I am.

OK, here's some shots of the two newest fish. First is Neo, the yellowhead wrasse. It's not the best of pics as he never stays still.
And then here is Hawkeye, the red spotted hawkfish.
Ever since we put Neo in the tank, Tiki, the royal gramma, has started to come out from behind his rock and swim around the tank. He postures a lot at Neo, trying to show who's boss. But Neo pretty much ignores him. He and Harley seem to be best of buds and swim around the tank a lot together. Clifford, the Indigo hamlet has developed a neorosis and has taken to swimming up and down the side wall hour after hour. We finally blocked it off this evening by putting a piece of aquarium backing on that side and he's now swimming around the tank like a real fish.
Hawkeye does not swim like a "real" fish, but hops around the rocks. He is very defensive of his area and postures at all the fish when they come looking to see who the latest "neighbor" is. He is very cute and adds a lot of character to the tank. Our five fish were all excellent additions and compliment each other. Now I can concentrate on the inverts and corals!! Get that credit card warmed up, baby!!!!! LOL

For that size tank a BakPak should be fine, just make sure to clean the collection cup neck every few days to keep it effecient.
I don't know about your tap water filter, but mine does next to nothing. My TDS before the filter is 390, after the filter it is 340, so if I were you I would find a different water source. You say you don't have a place to hook up a RO/DI unit, couldn't you hook it up to your kitchen sink? I know some people that did that in apartments by changing the head on their kitchen sink to accept a screw on cap for the RO/DI feed line.
Also, I would suggest stopping additions to your tank until your ammonia and nitrates are at zero. I know it is HARD to wait when first starting the tank, but it pays off in long term stability.
