Great pics Pat! Your foxface never has shown a nice clean spot on the back then has it? Still a very pretty fish. I like the 3rd one too (can't remember the type right now though....swallowtail???)

Nope, I guess it either has a birth defect or it just hasn't gotten comfortable here with us yet....6 months later or however long it's been.:(
Yes, the other is a female swallowtail.

Geez, you guys! Those are some really nice pictures :eek1:

Brian-- I have the Tek retrofit T5 lights in my canopy. I thought the way the wires went into the ballast was a bit sketchy. Other than that, I really like them. Lots of light for the amount of electricity they use.

Pat,

I recently bought Scott Michael's Marine Fishes book and it is AWESOME!!!!

From the pictures you have provided I think you have a Onespot Foxface Rabbitfish (Siganus unimaculatus) page 370. There are color variations in rabbitfish, I think your fish just has a different "hair color" than other fish of the same species, not a birth defect. A pretty fish :)

Brian

PS Thanks for the comments on the T5's guys. I've decided to wait.

But it never got it's one spot!!! It's just a big blotch!:(

Must be a Oneblotch Foxface Rabbitfish :D

The pictures appearing in this thread are getting so good - you guys and girls may have to rename this thread.

The point is that this one is supposed to have the spot...it just never turned into the spot.....it's a big blotch like it's stressed or angry.

Well, Scott Michael's book is far from complete. It very well could be the closely related Siganus blotchicus :D

Dennis, great pictures as always. I have some of those tiny red tube worms too, but can't get a good picture of them.

You might want to add your camera setup to your signature so people stop asking what camera do you have :)

What camera do you have?

Brian

maybe its in its terrible 2's and will chill out later in life

Well it isn't mine. I borrow my mother's camera. It is a Minolta Maxxum 7D. She bought me (and her) a 100mm macro lens for christmas and that is what I used for all the latest pictures.

Dennis, we have one fist sized rock that is covered with those tiny red tube worms. We also have seen them spread to other areas of the tank. Someone posted a picture a few splits ago and I recall that I found out what it was......can't remember now but it was in one of our books. I'll flip through and see if I can relocate it. :)

Now that would be nice, wouldn't it? :)

GREAT pictures Dennis. I think you need to take your moms camera home tonight again and get more. You know we never get tired of seeing pictures, and there can never be too many! :p
