John, the clean up crew will work wonders. How much longer do you have to go before part 1 is cycled?

elzool....I would really try the seltzer. That will most likely be the best bet for you.

I am through with the cycle and have contacted Richard about sending part 2. He said he needs to dive.
John

Just hang in there then....he'll probably get out this week.

Everyone ââ"šÂ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å“ Success!! :bounce3: Pat & Brian, you were right on. That Seltzer water worked like a charm!! Even got a ââ"šÂ¬Ã…"œbadââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ crab to boot! Thanks a lot! Pictures below. Sorry but I have to learn this camera or use this as an excuse to buy a better one!! First one is about 2 1/2ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ and the small about 1 Ã"šÃ‚½Ã¢â"šÂ¬Ã‚. Thanks again!!

Glad it worked J,

Now just keep him in a cup with regular saltwater and you'll probably find someone willing to pay shipping for him, or someone local who wants one.

Brian

Nice catch, I'll be crabbing and shrimping myself. I'll have to try the seltzer water.

Pat.... Richard just got back to me and I will be getting part 2 tomorrow... He is good.

John

Excellent John!! Don't forget to swish all that rock before putting it in the tank. It'll get a bunch of the silt off. You'll be very happy with the job the clean up crew does.

Take lots of pictures to show us too.

Woo-hooo! Two more crabs out and one dead one being eaten by one of the ones I caught.

Still think I'll do a 1.035 dip on one of the rocks where the mantis lives. I believe I only have one. Either that or have multiple mantis in the same rock. Let it sit a few days and after that order me up a part two.

Still think you're better off pouring seltzer into the holes to get it out.

but which holes? there are so many I wouldn't know where to start. I guess I could try one or two and see what happens first.

Part 2 came and has been installed. Richard sent me some rubble rock and a few plants for my fuge and he also sent an anenome. It took hours to get in all in, but I think I'm satisfied with the way it looks. So far no recycle. I'll keep my fingers crossed. I will try to post pics.

Elzool ââ"šÂ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å“ What I did was stake out the rock for a little while and watch for him to stick his head out. They are very curious and if you place a stick (I used a small fiberglass pole) in front of the hole they would strike it. I figured out which holes he used and pulled the rock out of the tank. It took a few days of observing. I had someone spray my gorgonian with tank water (hey, I really like that thing!) while I held the rock above a Tupperware of salt water. I made sure I was holding on were there were no holes. I had a second helper use a funnel with about 6ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ of tubing on it. Poured the seltzer water in the hole and waited. Poured in another helping and boy did he did fly out! It was very easy. I had one in each of my rocks. I would try this a few times before I dipped the whole rock. I was afraid to dip due to loss of other life on the rock. Hope this helps!

My second part arrives tonight!!:D

i had no luck pouring seltxer in the hold my mantis lives in - the rock has too many holes and tunnels inside it. I did get two gorillas out in the process though.

I had a total of 6 mantis in my rocks. I used the hyper salinity dip to get one out (and it killed off a lot of life on that rock) and then I used seltzer squirted into holes on the other 5 rocks. 4 of them the mantis came out immediately on the first try. The 5th mantis came part of the way out and then retreated back into the hole (no way I was trying to grab him with my hand). Another seltzer squirt made him squirm around the hole, but he didn't come out and ended up dying in the hole where I couldn't get him :(

Brian

I probably should have said it earlier but it took three of us to do this and I think that helped out a lot especially spotting them. We used that same stick to gently ââ"šÂ¬Ã…"œguideââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ them as they came out. Second one came out a hole at the bottom of the rock and from were I was standing I would not have seen him with out some help. In all it took about 10 minutes.

Pat, Brian and Safir ââ"šÂ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å“ since you have a lot of experience with this should I remove as many crabs as I can? Did you keep any of the crabs you got? Just wondering. Thanks,

Jay

Yes Jay, just keep trying to take out whatever crabs you can. It took me over a year just to get all the gorillas out of the tank.
