It's a gorilla?
Weird, it doesn't look anything like the other gorillas in the tank.
By that I mean, it's a different color, body shape and has no hair.

Is this just a different species of gorilla?
Yes, there are lots of species. If it has the black claws...get it out. Gorilla isn't the proper name for them....we just say it. The proper name is xanthid crab.

Ok, just ordered the 2nd half of the package from Richard. Wheeee!

Also found two new critters last night.
The first one I've seen before, I just never knew it was alive. I always assumed it was part of the shadows in the rock itself from where it hides.

This is one. Any ideas?

The other is a really purple looking crab, isn't hairy and doesn't like to be photographed. That enough information to ID it? ;)

its a stone crab...the guy whose claws cost $25 a pound!!

He needs a new home!

SuperFresh has them on sale up here for $7.99 per lb. They average around 2 lbs. per pack, frozen. I think they are normally $16.99 per lb.

BTW - I don't know if you have SuperFresh down there but they are a grocery store up here.

What does boiling water do? It turns them red and then you eat them. :D

OH--OK. I thought maybe it flushed them out of the rock or something similar.

an injection of hot wter into the hole they live in twould likely flush them out as well, but isn't as amusing as wanting to eat a 2" crb :)

Swish them in some saltwater to clean some of the silt off. Smell to make sure no butt smell. Try and get as many bad critters out before they go in the tank....also take LOTS of pictures and POST them!:)
What time is the flight coming in?

elzool - If it was anything like mine - it will be a long but fun night!!:D Mine came in about 9PM. I really had not expected the amount of rock I got with the second so had to sit back and think about where to place everything.

If you get some surprise anemones like I did (and it seems like others have also  ), be aware they are extremely soft/fragile. I had to get them out of the bag (they attached themselves to the side of the bag), keep them in water, and then figure out a place for them to sit.

My water parameters returned to normal within one day and everything is doing great. However, I cannot find my peppermint shrimp. :strange:

Enjoy!
