Are you sure those are snail eggs? If so I wonder which kind. All the ones I've seen have been much smaller and laid out in a kind of squiggly spiral pattern. The ones I've seen aren't encased like that either. I'm eager to see if Brian says what kind of eggs they look like to him.

Snail eggs come in all kinds of shapes and sizes, some really bizarre! But those are definitely snail eggs from a Columbellid sp. of snail. At DIBS we have a great series of pictures actually showing one of the snails laying the egg masses :)

Squiggly spiral patterns are often from Cerith sp. snails.

Another type of egg mass commonly laid by snails are gelatinous um...snot masses :) Here is a picture:

Also, I recently got a new 10MP Casio ZX1000 camera, it is pretty good at taking closeups of reef tank inhabitants, here is an example:

Yep Columbellid snail eggs. You can actually watch them develop and the tiny little snails emerge. Of course I can't scrape my glass when they hatch out or they get caught in the mag-float. But it's pretty neat to see :)

Danielle, your pictures are great! It is good seeing them again.
The tank doesn't look like it has a lot of algae.
For whatever reason, I can't get the zoas to grow in this tank. They flourished in my tank, but not in Bob's. I transferred a bunch when I got rid of my tank, and they haven't spread at all. They just stay dormant.

I just ordered a new camera, and should get it this week, so I'll see if I can get some good pics.

Thanks Pat. Most of the algae is on the side of the tank with the powerhead. It doesn't show up too much in the pictures but in person, you'd definitely notice it.

What kind of camera are you getting?

I'm getting another Nikon. Something is wrong with my D50. I think I used it up. (I've taken over 15,000 pictures with it) I don't knbow if it's the shutter or what, but I'm having trouble with the autofocus.
It was a choice between the D200 or the new D80, and I choose the D80 because it was much cheaper and I don't need everything the D200 does. I never even used the D50 with anything except "auto" everything.
I also bought a nice lens for it that will be an excellent all purpose lens.
So, I should be set.

I really love my D50 and never would even be thinking about a new camera if I were able to use all my lenses as I had in the past. I can only use the stock lens now, and only when it's set to focus on the closest object...otherwise all the pictures come out blurry unless I have a good amount of time to take the shot.

The worms decided to come out today during the day (and non feeding time)

Hope everyone has a Happy Easter tomorrow!

Nice looking works. I got a bunch of those lol. Few more weeks and I will be placing an order for some TBS rock. I will be sure to post up some pics.

Pat, I was talking to someone about this post that has a Nikon DSLR and he said that you should make sure the camera is really clean. He said you may have some dirt/dust or something on the auto focus sensor which could be causing it to do what it is doing. He said 15,000 pictures should not affect the camera like that.

Thanks Steve,
I got the new camera, but still have the D50 here. My youngest is using it for now. I will check and make sure it's clean. I've never cleaned it, but I also make sure there's a lens on all the time, and when I do change lenses, it's done quickly. But I will check it out for sure. I have to find out where the auto focus sensor is now. It really is a nice camera, and I was sad when it wasn't working properly.

And here I thought the worms I had were enormous. Beautiful tank

There are a bunch larger than that. It was just strange they were out and about without it being feeding time.

time to wake up the list. my 75 has been running for 18 months now. i have 3 pistol shrimp and 2 of these live in the same cave so i assume they are a pair. this morning while feeding i,m sure i saw a pistol shrimp that was about a 1/4"long in a hole in the rock. is it possible they have breed in the tank?has anyone heard of this happening?

I'm guilty as ever for not posting on rc...

I'd imagine it's unlikely...since it would have to be some zooplankton that somehow dodges your pumps/filter feeders, molts, becomes a shrimp and grows up.

Perhaps the previous clicking was from multiple pistols that you had thought was just one?

Bob, I have no idea, but chances are the 3 were in there all along, and you just never saw the other one.
I remember before I sold some of the TBS, there were DOZENS of tiny pistols in there. I'd see one or 2 in the same spot for the longest time. I removed some of the rock from the tank and heard popping throughout the rock I took out, while still seeing the couple I always saw.
I still have my large orange/blue one in there, and it molts all the time. I know there are more in there because I can be looking at the orange one, and hear popping in different parts of the tank at the same time...yet I don't see any others, only the orange one.

pat, yes there were 3 adults all along. now i,m seeing one thats 1/4" long. i can't believe it came in with the rock 18 months ago and only grew that big. thats why i,m thinking they breed

i now made a positive id on baby pistol shrimp. 1/4 to 3/8 long and still a dark clear color. the tank is running over 18 months now so it's likely they were born/ hatched in the tank

That is so cool then!
I had gotten an email from Dennis recently, and he was telling me about his coral growth after switching away from Kent salt. He sent me pictures showing the before/after shots, and it was amazing.

We're still using Kent, so now maybe I know why corals don't grow in the tank. I showed Bob the pictures and he was amazed too. He said we'll get a different brand of salt next time we need some. Hopefully that will help things grow in the tank.

We barely have any coralline algae in it, even after doing turbo calcium. I just don't understand it.

my coral growth is excellent with io. i boost the cal a little when mixing a batch, but i like the high alk [11dk]. that frag of hammer you gave me now has at least 10 heads and i really should cut it back. the io is a pretty good price at pw and he always has it. i'll shoot you some pics over the weekend.
