How many of you are culturing your rotifers outside as described in Wilkerson's CLownfishes Book?
I am trying to do this but am not too familiar with the daily "routine" of rotifers. I started a rotifer culture from cysts in a Petri (sp?) Dish and noticed them multiplying (so at this point they were alive). I then transfered them to an outside container with full light and added green water.
The only porblem is when I run the sieve through the top part and middle of the water, I get nothing. I have to stir up the water to get any rotifers in the sieve, and since I do nothave a microscope, I have no idea whether these are alive or back to the cyst/dormant form.
First off, am I correct in assuming that a healthy rotifer culture will exist in all levels of the water column?
Any advice on what I need to do to get this outside culture going?
