Outer Orbit Fixture

I have been researching this light fixture for my 75 gallon tank and after reading the pdf I see that it says I should only run the light over a glass top on my aquarium. Right now with my tek t5 fixture I dont have any top on my tank.

Should I run the light over a glass top?

If it's the metal halide version then yes on the glass. But the glass is on the light not the tank. Double ended metal halide bulbs require the glass for UV protection.

On my fixture, each MH has it's own glass & the t-5's have a plexi-cover to keep salt creep out. It works well.

I have that fixture over my 75 (( 2*250 + 2*54 T5 )), and I do not have any glass over my tank (( not counting the glass that comes with the fixture that goes over the MHs )).

IMO, that statement is there to keep the lawyers happy.

Ok great, Happy Lawyers.

thanks guys :)

First, nice avatar!

Second, I agree with what everybody else said. The only glass necessary is on the fixture already.

Thank you :)

How high above the water are your Metal Halides?

Right now, mine are about 3 inches or so -- just using the legs that came with the unit. One of these days I will get around to hanging it.
