Output Tubing Maxijet/ATO setup

I'm setting up an ATO and have a couple quick questions.

What is the size of the tubing I will need to connect to the output on a Maxijet1200? Is it 1/2 inch? What's the best way to stop backlow into my reservoir? Should I just stick a check valve at the end?

it 3/8 im pretty sure, to stop backflow dont submerge the output tube keep it above the water level
