Guys, I just went to a website which I won't name and they have

orange ppes at a cost of 1,050 for 3 polyps

I think that is crazy.............anyone here think that or are there some who think that is a fair price?

no coral is worth that price and adding names to them does not help

I agree no polyp is worth that crazy price, but some people think it is. It's a matter of opinion and wallet size if you asked me.
I disagree with the naming part though. While every polyp now has it's own name. Naming them makes ID'ing a polyp much easier.
I just submitted a polyp to zoaid, not to be able to sell it for some stupid price, because it's "named". But to let people see what they might be getting in a trade or purchase from me. Nothing more.
We all know the "name game" is getting a little overboard, but sometimes knowing the name can make a purchase or trade much easier.
JMO.

there is definately a collector aspect to the hobby. just like baseball cards. there are some people that will pay for honus wagner or mickey mantle rookie cards and there are some people that will pay for expensive zoas and palys.

3 POLYPS OF ENVY ORANGE COST THAT MUCH. I WOULDN'T PAY THAT MUCH FOR IT THOUGH.

no, they don't. I pay the same for them as I do any zoa from the wholesalers. it's the 'collector' making the rediculous prices.

yep

yep

Actually, they do. I've seen them go for 400 a polyp- I can't believe anyone would pay that much for them... They aren't even as pretty as others. I read that they are very, very slow growers, though.
If you can get them for so cheap, hook us up! LOL!

I hope its a typo on the price.....1,050 for 3 polyps of anything is crazy. I've seen acans that were 500 a polyp as well.

The naming thing is fine for id purposes but then prices get jacked up once a zoa gets a name. I'm just after nice looking zoos for my tank not the name.

Lets say you had a tubs blue zoo and then a blue zoo of that exact color that came as a hitchhiker on some LR. I'm sure when you sell them the Tubs blue would get you more money from other hobbyists.

Envys supposedly grow very slow. Like a polyp a year if your lucky. The are solid orange with a green mouth. I've seen them for $600 a polyp on the site the three for 1,050. Acctually the 600 a polyp is there normal price so you're getting a deal. Still outragous if you ask me.

Bebo,

Those look like true RPE's, which still sell for more than a couple of dollars a polyp-haven't bought or sold any in years, so not sure of going rate these days; trading is my prefered route for these 'LE' zoas. Mine have colored anywhere from red to bright orange depending on lighting. I believe the Envy Orange are solid orange (no stripes or darkened center). Regardless, too much for my blood (unless I can find them in a trade). It's interesting how often this thread pops up though;).

if you guys keep your eyes open for the walt smith 'combo polyp rocks' with around a half dozen different zoas,GSP, buttons, etc. you'll frequently see OPE's, RPE's, GPE's, etc. in the mix. most people see the GSP and their eyes move on... :D
