Overboard's 8 foot 360 Gallon Build

Nice build.

It has been asked before but I am really curious about the hinges you used. Can you tell us the model and where we can pick up those hinges?

Vertical Hinges

The cabinet maker that built the canopy supplied the hinges, but this seems to be what he used (but this was from a UK website and I am in Texas). "LAMP" is embossed on the side of the hinge.

They hold up the large lids very well (each has three hinges) and they have a soft close feature.

Thanks!!

Hey Tim!

That's them.

Each of my lids are 4 feet long so they are not light. These hinges/stays are pretty heavy duty. The only deficiency I see is that on my installation, the lid can actually be raised too high. Push the lid up too high, and the sliding rod is pulled out of the connection point. I wish they had a built in stop, but I think I will just drill the rod for a small screw to act as a stop.

Thanks!

Lighting-

Years ago, I had a 8.5 foot long system (215 with a 90 on the same stand) and I used 3 x 400 watt MH over the 215 plus 1x 250 MH over the 90. All this supplemented with VHO's. The reflectors used were pretty cheap "spider-style" reflectors so I am not sure I was getting the most out of the lights. Never checked with a PAR meter. Acros grew extremely well and the colors were great. Certainly "old school" by many standards.

I tried AI Sol's, Hydra's and Hydra 52's over my 150 and just never could get good color. Not saying it is not possible, I have seen some great LED tanks, but my skills may not be up to the task.

I am going with a mixed set up this time, but still tweaking the final selection.

First, I am going with much better reflectors. I will be using large Lumenbrights. I will probably use 250 watt bulbs, but also mix in some LED fixtures.

To be continued...........
