Overflow and return placement

About to drill my 65g for a glass holes overflow and return.

I was thinking to drill the return next to the overflow but pointing away (similar to the reef ready setups). Is this the best option for water movement?

Also, does it matter where I place the overflow box (back-middle, back corner, side etc. ) or is it simply a matter of aesthetics?

Thanks,

My overflow is on one end, and the sump return on the other. I keep a mj 600 on the opposite side of the return. Water's been moving moderately in my 30 gallon, and none of my corals are displeased. I get plenty of surface agitation as well. Probably run 2 pumps in that 65 though.. I don't think you should rely on your overflow/return as means of water movement. Hope this helps

Thanks. Im not planning on using overflow/return for water movement within the tank. That will be for the powerheads. I'm only shooting for 3-4x turnover through the sump for filtration.

I put my overflow/drain in the exact middle of the back, a custom PVC spray-bar return all along the top of the left side, and a circulation pump on the right side. Best thing is to put a load of crushed up flake food in the tank and see where it goes it will show you the water movement.
