Overflow Box Sloshing Noise

On mine, I will stick my finger into the opening of the hose that goes to the sump below where the water pours in, and I will swirl the water to get a even pour. This usually stops that sound for me

On mine it seems like the water flows in, then it seems there is another box (inside the first box?) that the water flows into before it gets to the tubes down to the sump.
It almost seems that it is draining faster than it is being replaced be the return pump. The water level doesn't change or anything.
I just bought the tank off a buddy, so I am not sure on the return pump size or if that makes a difference for this noise.

Not possible. Is this an overflow box on a non drilled tank? Can you get us a picture?
I saw this on a tank where someone drilled it with insufficient vertical distance between the siphoning and non-siphoning drains. The water level that allowed just a trickle through the non-siphoning was too low to avoid entry of air into the siphoning drain (vortex).

Not a bean setup, since there are only two holes. They look like they are just standpipes. If both are non-syphon type drains (which looks like the case), it can't handle much flow without making gurgling noises.
Try decreasing flow on the return pump by valving down the pressure side. Any idea how much flow the pump is pushing, and how big the pipes on the drain are?

I honestly do not know on the return loin since I bought the tank off someone and he didn't remember. So I guess its no help. LFS said the noise (listened to the video I have) is usually not enough water in the system.
But honestly I had to drain some water die to a small leak on the drain pipe. So I guess I will tinker with it when I fill tomorrow.

My overflow does this when I take my enkamat out. Don't see if you have one in the pics.
Are you having water passing through the filter media or just using it as a cover?
If the water is passing through it I would be worried about build up of crap that will eventually clog it and make your tank overflow.
I suppose that could happen even if you're just using it as cover and a pice falls down and gets stuck in the pipes.

Yes, water is passing through it, I will keep an eye on it and may adjust it or change the filter media if needed.
What it seemed to need was a higher overall water level, but adding water just increased the sump and not really the main tank.
I can keep tinkering with it, but I am open to suggestions.
Not trying to be a negative post, but you really need to read up on how to plumb systems unless you are ok with coming home to x amount of water on the floor, fill in the x with whatever amount fits if the worst thing happens. Unless you are on a slab floor and good drainage way from tank area you are asking for big problems should things go south. Seriously just step back and think if this line gets plugged up what could happen, and maybe even pretend your finger is a snail and plug it up, that is when you will understand the importance of a well thought out plumbing for your tank. I for one love the bean animal setup I sleep better having it.
Perhaps I did not describe well. The overflow box has a smaller box inside it, it sits about 2 or so inches down. And then about 1.5 to 2 inches on each side there is a gap that water flows down and side walls with a slit that allows the water to flow into the inside box and down the drains. My filter media is on top of the center box. It has the same effect as lowering the overflow box 1/8 of an inch.
The dark holes on the side are what it flows down to the center box and nothing is restricting that section.
