Don't yell, I am new........Going SW after years of freshwater.
I have a new 220g tank that is 6' long x 24" wide x 30" deep.
The tank is going to be build in a wall and visible on both the long
sides. Fish only with live rock.
I want to do Calfo style overflow boxes on one or both sides.
My question is: Is not all the overflow supposed to go to the skimmer?
Then the skimmer output feeds into the sump?
I was thinking about using a Euro-reef RC180. That skimmer has only
a 3/4" inlet. Can I feed it directly from the overflow? I would imagine
that if I drilled 3-1" overflow holes in the overflow box that it would
be easily able to supply a 3/4" line. Or do I need some sort of external
pump to get the water into the skimmer with some pressure?
The other option is to use a skimmer in the sump. I don't think I have
enough height under the tank.
I would then need a pump from the sump back up into the tank, right?
A closed loop could be then used to provide the tank circulation.
Sound good?
Thanks for any advice,
Scott
