overflow noise

Any way to cut down the sucking noise from your overflow into the sump? My sump set up is practically silent, but the noise of the water going from the overflow into the sump is really loud.

Thanks,
Dave

I really was not clear in my question, after re-reading further... In the overflow box, there is no noise at all. Am using a silencer, and the water going down is almost silent. But, the 1" hose carrying the water from the overflow box to the sump does not fill with water, so you get the gurgling noise as the hose enters the sump. You see the air/water mix right at the point of entry. Should I be using smaller diameter hose?
Thanks!

It is not real safe, but if you put a valve on the end of the hose to back some water up it will stop that gurgling.

I had a CPR overflow box and I manage to put a 1" DIY durso pipe in the water entry, where the strainger is placed.

that stops the sound

ONLY do this if you have a backup drain. This is what I do and its COMPLETELY silent.

I tried this (but it didnt cut down the noice completely): put a 90 degree right before the drain hits the water, then put a Tee, one facing up and one facing down, the air will go up and water will go down. You might need to put a foot or more on the one facing up and the one facing down. Also, it is a good idea to expand the tube after the 90 degree from 1" to 1 1/4 or more to slow the water down.

my explination probably sucks, but this method works for some people, it cut down my noise, but not silent like my method now.

My tank is drilled for the return. I actually had to put a T on the back of the tank. One end heads to my sump and the other goes up for air. On the air side I put a ball valve that i have closed enough tht you can barely see any opening. The same amount of water flows down but it cut down on the noise tremendously. This was you can adjust the ball valve however much you need.

re-title the thread, "You never stop being a newbie"...
I simple adjustment to the "dursos", introduced an air vent, and it stopped immediately.

Thank you all for you input.
I do appreciate it.
