Overflow noise

I know overflows have a little noise but mine will go completely silent and then 15 seconds later it will sound like you're draining a bath tub in surround sound. Anyone have any ideas? It comes in waves like clock work. I've tried shutting it off to let it drain thinking the suction was messed up but that didn't help but for just a second.

Help please! Wife is soon to kill me

Might be a "flushing" problem. Is your return pump oversized? I have a similar issue if I am pushing too much water through my drain.

That is the air, most ppl refer to that as a gurgling or flushing sound. There maybe some solutions depending on what type of overflow you have. If you dont know the types, thats ok just post some pics

Basically if you have a little water in the pipe and a lot of air it is fairly quiet, if you have a full siphon all water like when you have a garden hose running under pressure its dead silent. What you most likely have is a decent amount of water with some air causing a tumbling action which creates the noise. Some use durso, herbie, gurgle buster and other means to mitigate these effects.
