Overflow/plumbing advice

Ok, so I got this tank with two overflows in it. Each overflow has two large holes for a 2.5" pipe, bulkheads and what not all came with the tank. Now I'm not going to have anywhere near as much flow through this tank as the capacity it has, so my big worry is potential sound issues. I do have a couple true union ball valves for the 2.5" pipe (also came with the tank), but I'm not quite sure how to incorporate them since they are fairly large and bulky and I really don't have that much of a run to the sump.

My idea was basically to tie the outputs of both overflows into a T that goes to sump, so essentially there would be two pipes that end up going to the sump, but not sure that will really do anything useful. And I'd like to figure out what I'm going to do before the tank is full of water.

You can put a T on your return line after the pump, but I wouldn't T the drain, just incase a fish or snail crawls in it then the other can still function. It always helps to have a backup in this hobby.

I do have a backup, it's the other overflow box and drains there :D The idea of the tee was simply to tie the pipes together because there going to be so fricking large. My last tank (180g) had a 1.5" drain as a backup, and a 1" drain with a gate valve so I could make a flooded/herbie overflow.

Might just try it with the 4 2.5" pipes open at your maximum desired flow before you do anything complicated. If your flow is low enough to flow down the sides of the pipes without breaking up the inner air column it should be silent. 4 2.5" pipes can probably run a fair bit of flow silently.

If you don't want the large pipes due to space constraints you could buy smaller plumbing and a reducer.

Hmm, I guess I can buy a ton of fittings and what not and dry fit it not caring about leaks and give that a go. Sounds like a plan, I'm still in the sanding out all the scratches phase now, so plumbing will come probably by weeks end. Then if that doesn't work I can cry and scream "why won't it be quiet!!!"

Ok I'll need some 400+ gallons of RO/DI water too, hmm, maybe a couple weeks before plumbing.

no sense wasting RODI on a "leak test/ drain test"

Well I wasn't think leak test, I was thinking fill the tank with water, then dump in the salt and mix it directly in the tank. Although I might want to aquascape without water for ease of manuvering over a 5 foot span.
