Overflow protection?

I have an eshopps overflow box, 300gph.

I was reading that for some overflow boxes there are protective addons that can prevent it from being clogged or blocked.

I haven't been able to find anything while searching, would anyone have an example or recommendation for such a product?

Not real familiar with that so I looked it up. It appears that it has it's own built in protection. it looks as if the foam filter got to blocked with debris that the water level would rise and go into the NON sponged area. Or am I looking at the picture wrong?

When I had one a 29g, I removed the sponge. Never had one get blocked or clogged. The worry is if power is lost and the pump starts back up, hopefully a syphon can get created, any air gets pushed out of the "U" tube. If not then the tank will fill and overflow.

I never had it fail to restart although a few times I would only get a partial syphon and sluggish flow until all the air was expelled.

I believe you could hook a toms aqualifter pump up to it. So that when the power starts back up it would suck the air out. Drilling is always better though. I built two of my own pvc overflows. They work but I don't trust them because I have had three or four floods because of them. As soon as I get the money I am going to be buying the stuff to drill a 20 gallon.

I'm not worried about the siphon, just sea creatures clogging the overflow, and it seemed there were some plastic enclosures that would prevent this.

They may exist but certainly do not seem to be common. I don't think I'll worry about it any more .
