overflow question

What would you guys recommend for setting up an overflow on an un-drilled 40 gal breeder. My goal is an SPS dominant tank, but it will be a mixed reef for sure. My options are:

Drill towards bottom on back of tank and make standpipes with 90 elbows

Drill at top of back and make a long overflow across the whole back of tank

Or purchase a hang-on overflow

What do you think? Any other ideas?

Drilling would be best. As a 2nd option, LifeReef makes the best hang on siphon overflow boxes.

Drilling is probably better...I have an over the back overflow...and I can never rest at ease when I go away, because I never know if my "u" tube will fill with air and break siphon. But be careful with who you have drill your tank...many people will take no liability if they crack it, etc.

I figured I would end up drilling the tank, so I guess I should have re phrased my question. What method of drilling is most common? The bottom is obviously not an option, so its got to be drilled on the back panel.

I'm leaning towards drilling two holes, one on the bottom left corner of the back panel for a traditional standpipe corner style overflow, and one hole on the top right corner of the back panel for the return. Thoughts?

The idea being less "stuff" in the tank the better.
