Overflow very loud

I put a new Mag 7 (replacing a Mag 5) in a 3 month established 75 g with a 40 g breeder system.
Additionally, I added a SRO 3000 skimmer (too much skimmer maybe, but not my problem I don't think).
I have two drilled bulkhead overflow strainers on each end of the tank w/return in the center.
My right side overflow strainer is now too loud to accept.
When I first set it up it (in the living room) was also loud but I remedied that problem by inserting airline tubes from strainer about half way down the pipe.
It worked great.
Now, after the new pump and skimmer, the bubbling and gurgling sound is back with a vengence and is driving my wife and I crazy.
I adjusted the inner tube with no success.

Does anyone have some insight into solving this dilemma?:headwallblue:

A pic of the drains would be helpful but I suspect the airline tube may be clogged.

Ok here are 3 photos.
The quiet left side. What/how I am filtering/stuffing w/ foam and the airline tube.
Airline tube is not blocked btw.

Unfortunately that type of drain is inherently noisy. I suspect the problem is the Mag7 is just putting out more flow than the drain can consume quietly. The skimmer is not doing anything to make the drain noisier, it is the change in flow. Either valve back the Mag 7 or put the Mag5 back on.

Makes sense.

Oddly, the left side drain is silent.

I dont want to throttle the mag 7 back because my 75g and 40g sump needs at least the amount of flow, or so I understand via research.

So....

Can you suggest another drain to replace the strainers that would not require a from sump to inside bulkhead option?

If not, what would you change out to quiet it down.

The sound/noise is not tolerable and I fear if nothing can be done retrofitting, wifey will come up with a permanent solution..lol.

To give you an idea of how to make a proper overflow, look at these...

If you are handy you make your own or you can use a pre-made kit like above. How well it will work will depend on how the hole is drilled and the size of the hole. One nice thing about glass is it is easy to enlarge a hole, you simply drill a new hole over the old hole.

I don't wish to dismantle my tank to drill larger holes at this point but....

I choked back the pump (very small amount) until the drain went silent.

Great simple solution.
