Overflow- Where did you get yours?

I am going to be drilling my tank and I want to have 2 overflows- one on each corner. I have been looking at glass-holes but they don't have corner overflows and I really don't know what the baffle system does in those? Anyone want to help me out?

THANKS!

Have you checked with your LFS's? I had my overflow box built by a local.

Are you planning on having them right at the corners or set in a hair? I only ask b/c if they are right at the corners, it may not look as good on each side. All a matter of opinion no doubt but this is the reason I went with a single center overflow over twin corners. I view my tanks' sides as much as I do the front.

Are you drilling the bottom, or just up high in the corners? I like the idea of avoiding the top-to-bottom overflows that tend to highlight coralline algae.

I got my 700gph overflow at glass-holes. I haven't fired it up yet, but I think the baffles are for noise reduction.

I assumed up top. Normally I don't like to assume b/c ya know....

But otherwise it seems you would be better off buying a new or used tank with the corner overflows already done.

I have glass Holes kits installed on a couple tanks and probably wont get any other overflows. Mine is dead silent and if you think about it, does the same job as my top-to-bottom overflow without taking up so much space. The baffle system is on horizontal baffle which water flows over, then under baffles on both sides and into the bulk head. They'll also Give you everything you need, and can pick up a through-glass return kit as well. It's cheap and very effective and I couldn't be happier with mine.

I do suggest the optional lid if you have mischievous hermets, as the tubing in the elbow stops them from dropping to the sump and could restrict flow flooding the DT. Speaking from experience, I recommend the $10 lid.

I am in no way affiliated with the company, just a satisfied return customer.

Ditto on a lid regardless. I made my own as I have Mexican Turbos. I saw one in my overflow once with scared the crap out of me. Could be terrible if they got stuck in the plumbing.

OK, so the glass holes baffle system is for the noise reduction, instead of using the....thing that goes up with the lid on it lol.

I would like to have TEETH on my overflow, and I'm not sure about a lid, although I am sure I can make a lid out of something here.

The overflow from glass-holes with teeth is $60- I think that is a bit excessive and it is too big for what I need.

I understand what you are saying with the overflow in the center, but what if a fish got in and I needed to get it? then there is no way.

This is probably going to sound stupid, but how does the water get into the overflow if there is a lid on it and no teeth?

Yep! Just going on the top of the back glass, not on the bottom

Have you gone to their site..... www.glass-holes.com The overflow does have "teeth" on it.

I have the 1500 gph overflow in a 90 gallon tank. If and when I ever upgrade or change tanks, it will have a glass-holes overflow. They are a fraction of the size of those standard behemoth overflows that you get. In addition they are very quiet. You won't be disappointed.

The kit comes with everything, including the drill bit. You never mentioned the size of your tank, but they now offer three sizes....a nano, 700 gph and 1500 gph. The 700 and 1500 require an 1 1/2 bulkhead (which is part of the kit)....the 1500 has two of these. I'm not familiar with the nano, so I can't say what size bulkhead that has.

Hands down, the best commercial overflow on the market.

I have a 60 gallon tank. its 40" wide. This is a crappy pic of it:

I see that overflow, but Don't you think 60 is a little bit excessive (I should say 55 because I already have a drill bit)? I saw the plumbing parts for 7.50 (elbows, bulkhead, strainer), but then I would have to pay for shipping and the long pipe to use for noise reduction.. etc...so figure 20 dollars. The the box itself I think I would get for $35...so I guess we are looking at 55 for the whole assembly anyways.

It sounds like a lot of you guys have just used ONE overflow. Wouldn't you rather have dual overflow for the reason of security (if something were to get in there)?

You get what you pay for, it is quality stuff and they have great customer service. I wouldn't trust the hang on overflow, just seems dangerous to me.

I have a single overflow on my 75g. I really don't see how my overflow could fail, so I don't see a need for a backup. I also have the glass-holes overflow and am very pleased. It was noisy at first because I was pushing too much water through it. It was handling it fine, it was just noisy. I tuned my pump back and now it is pretty quiet. Personally, I think it was one of the better values with regards to price compared to my lights, skimmer, and return pump.

It's not about if failing, it's about something crawling in there. Trust me... it CAN happen. I found a Mexican turbo in my overflow. Soooo lucky it didn't make it into the drain or else it could have easily flooded the tank. I immediately made a cover for mine to prevent it from happening again. I think it's better to have dual drains not necessarily dual overflows. Not sure if that's what the previous poster meant by that.

I think it is unanamous! I have the gl*******s kit too - mine is 2 x 2" bulkheads, box has teeth. IMHO, it is one of the truly great bargains in this hobby. Yes, I know you have a drill bit for the hole(s) - is it the right size to match the bulkhead(s)? Also - a single drain can fail. even if nothing crawls in to it, buildup of gunk will slowly constrict the inside, reducing flow.

FWIW - my 150 has a total of 4 drains - 2 x 1" with corner boxes,(put in when overflows were a "new" idea, circa 1990, and the 2 x 2" gl*******s kit installed in the center of the tank - My return pump is a dart that also feeds the refugium (a 120g) and my GFO and Carbon reactors (2 x single BRS)

Hahahahahaha, it blocked out your naughty word, thats funny!

I think I want 2 drains so I will need 2 boxes, thats expensive...unless they make a box with two holes hrmmm, I will have to look.

Yea you get what you pay for, and believe me I have paid alot for things in this hobby. But I have also seen plenty of people do their own overflows and never have a problem. I just know I am lazy and not sure if I will actually do that or not.

i had a nerite get stuck in mine the other night. luckly when the top off kicks on it wakes me up. it was on for like 3 minutes and i got up to investigate. right before the tank over flowed i caught it
