overflowbox/return pump?

alright so i purchased a eshopps 800gph overflow box and a mag drive 9.5 return pump. Is this to much for my 55 gallon dt and 20 gallon L sump, I plan on putting a ball valve on return line to dial down flow and will have a 3-4 ft head for the pump to push it up with a couple 90 degree elbows. also i got my glass baffles cut to 8 inches tall thats 4 inches from the top. how big should i make each compartment, I do not have a skimmer.

I was thinking i could make the 1st compartment fairly small maybe 4-5 inches since im not putting a skimmer in and if i do add a skimmer is there such thing as an external one or could i get a hob skimmer, Also how big should i make the return section i do not want to have to top off every day since i will be doing it manually until i can get an ato. so would like 6 inches be big enough for the return section?

You are better off asking these questions before you buy something. I would have got a smaller return pump. Mag5/7 or similar flow.

Dividing up the sump has purposes. Typically the first section fits the drain and skimmer and what is left is for the return.

Yeah, you will get mixed answers. That overflow wont be able to hadle all the flow of a Mag9, and its just big for a 55/20G anyway. So what is the plan for the sump, just fuge and return? A small fuge doesnt do all that much. You would be better off using that space for a skimmer.

Edit: Yes, there are external skimmers. You can put it outside of the sump and still have room for your fuge.

I don't have a skimmer I plan on getting one in a little while though. I plan on having a small section for the drain water maybe 4 inches and using the rest for the fuge and return. I do plan on using a ball valve for the return line to dial down the 9.5 so I'm hoping it will work.
