Overheating seahorse tank

OK i have a hippocampus reidi tank (with no SH in it yet) that has been cycling and lately it has been over heating to almost 100F :thumbdown: and i cant get it to stay steady permanently. the tank is a biocube 8 tank. Does anyone know how to keep the temp. down and steady ant what temp. is best for the SH??? :fish1:

an 8 gal tank is never going to work for reidi other than fry or VERY young juvies.

also, "plug-n-play" setups run WAY to hot for SH on a good day (they generally run in the 80*F range). even the 24 gal systems are a tad short for SH, but it's doable, providing you can keep the temp down to </= 74*F.

you need to re-pump the tank with a cooler-running pump, maybe add a fan, open the feeding lid, and keep your photoperiod short. if this doesn't get you down to the right temp, then you'll need to run a chiller. we have 13 setups running, five of which are "P-n-P" systems (none for SH), so i speak from experience.

if you're on a budget, you might try a std 29 gal and run an oversized HOB filter with some NO fluorescents. that's a simple SH setup that will work out fine.

SH aren't that hard to keep, but they do have some special requirements. it would be terrible for you to have a bad experience with them when it's preventable.
