Im in the process of setting up my 220 gal in wall tank, and im looking to purchase the skimmer now. I was about to go spend $674 for either the
Reef Octopus 10" Regal 250SSS Space Saving Protein Skimmer or Reef Octopus 12" Regal 300INT Internal Protein Skimmer. I saw they were DC pumps, the skimmers looked great, but since I can create this forum I thought why not give it a chance and ask if theres any better skimmers for the same price or lower. I appreciate everyone's opinions.

From what I've heard these are beast skimmers. The 250SSS is not overkill for your tank. I say go for it.

Lifereef skimmer will blow the doors off any reef octopus.

They are good skimmers for sure. No idea how they comare since I've never owened a reef octopus. But was just seconding the Lifereef skimmers. Mine has lasted 15 years so far.

I had a Lifereef on my 300. I'd never touch one again. The way the cup is held on felt very cheap. I thought I was going to break it every time I took it off. Didn't produce anything either. Tried 3 different pumps and configurations over a year. My budget sro5000 pulls in one week what the lifereef pulled in over a month. The sro skimmate is also much darker and thicker. The lifereef was like light tea. If you're looking for a budget skimmer ro is a reliable choice.

If you couldn't get skimmate out of a Lifereef you either had the water level set wrong, or had a tiny little pump. If there's a light bio load, it won't skim much, which is to be expected.

The skimmate I get makes me almost want to gag it's so dense.

I really like Reef Octopus.. The one on my 75 gallon tank is a Hang on the back style and it produces thick skimmate I have to scrape out of the collection cup. It's better than most of the in-sump ones I've seen.. I've also heard the in-sump ones are fantastic as well.

This is what happens to me. I won't get into what is best but I will say life reef skimmers are great, under appreciated, and offer plenty of headroom for growth.
