Overly Energetic Blonde Naso

Moved On
I'm probably just being overly paranoid but.....

I have a juvenile Blonde Naso in a 29 gal QT. It's been in QT for about a month now, and I've been prophylactically treating with Chloroquine Phosphate. When I first got him, he was very shy & timid, spending almost all of his time inside a PVC cave. He's gradually been coming out more and now literally won't stop swimming. He just swims and swims and swims. Almost like he can't stop himself. He used to stop and pick at his food, now he just swims through his food and has to keep circling back to eat it. He also is wiggling side to side a lot when swimming, more than I'm used to seeing a Naso do.

Any thoughts? He's a LA DD specimen, so he's already been de-wormed. However, I still plan on treating him with 2 rounds of Prazi soon. He's shown no signs of any disease.

My new scribble did this very same thing for about two weeks. I thought it may have to do with him being alone in the qt. But even when I added a few fish to calm him down he still swam like crazy. He did not stop until after a week of being treated with quinine sulfate. Has not done it since.

Since it's been a month anyway, I ran carbon to take the CP out and he's back to his usual self. Don't know if it was just coincidental or pacing is a possible side effect of CP (and maybe QS too). It was just weird, he was swimming back & forth, almost like he couldn't stop. He wouldn't even stop to eat; He would just make these passes by the food and suck some in as he swam by.

Tomorrow I'll start the two rounds of Prazi and then he should be good to go. I'm debating whether or not to tinker with my QT procedure to do the Prazi first and then finish up with the CP. I've read that CP diminishes Prazi's effectiveness, but I've yet to see any signs of Flukes from the fish I mixed the two meds with. I'm assuming if CP diminishes Prazi's effectiveness, the same would hold true for QS. I know that's how it is with copper as well.

Would be interesting if others that have used cp and qs would share their experiences and side effects of the meds. We could better understand them.

OK, here's an update: The wiggly swimming has returned, but now he also has a bloated stomach to boot. It's almost like he's struggling to stay down as he swims. So, I'm thinking possible swim bladder or dropsy or something. I'm feeding him nothing but peeled boiled peas until I can figure out my next move. I have some Furan-2 on hand, but I'm scared to use that in combination with CP. I thought I had removed all the CP by running carbon, but only "white algae" is growing so at least some CP must still be active in there. I'm thinking I might need to transfer him to a different QT before administering antibiotics.

Again, if it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all. ;)
