oversized heater???????

ok i have the chance to but a heater that comes with a heat probe, its hooked up to the heater, so its not for showing me the temp. but my qustion is i have a 100 watt heater, it busted and i found it for sale on another site. this heater is 200 watts. my tank is a 26 gallon mixxed reef with a 10 gallon sump/fuge. the tank has been set up for a year and the old heater use to keep the tank at about 78- 80.

Is the heater adjustable or is it just one of the heaters that raises the temp a certain number of degrees over room temp? I would NEVER buy a used heater btw.

I use the smallest heater I can to maintain the desired temp. That way when it sticks on (it will at some point) it will not cook your tank. Personally I would use somewhere between 50-100 watt heater max in your tank depending on room temp, amount of pumps, open top and lights.

Heaters are never a sure thing even when they are new, they malfunction and over time the risk is greater. Used heaters are just a dangerous proposition. How much is this used heater going to cost you? The peace of mind that a new heater gives is worth it for me.

lights are 150 MH but i have a few fans but the down udjust the temp that much when on. now normaly i wont ever try and save money but im only 14 so im not rich, i dont even have a job so when i get some money and somthing needs to be replaced i spend a little less. my LFS is very expensive about 50 or 60 dollers for a 100 watt heater their.

Buy the heater online if you are concerned about your LFS. It will be much cheaper then replacing the heater when it fails, because when a heater fails and stays on it cooks EVERYTHING and then you get to start from scratch.

Not sure why you wouldn't want a stealth pro near your tank. For every failure I'm sure there are thousands of happy customers (including me). I have been running exclusively stealth pro heaters for years and have never once had a failure. They are extremely accurate and do a good job. I would recommend this heater to anyone but if you are looking for something else buy something else. This is a tough hobby to be successful in if you focus exclusively on cheap parts.

many ppl have thousands of dollars invested in their livestock.. having a heater that is known to explode dosent sound smart.....

Someone i know lost 4000$ in live stock because of one..

People don't usually come on forums and start threads about how awesome their heater is, but I guarantee you that if every stealth heater buyer got on here and voted you would see 100x more happy customers then unhappy. Like I said it's a personal choice. All I was telling the OP was to not buy a used heater.

Did i miss something? You'd buy a used heater of unknown state but not a stealth? I don't get the logic. :hmm4: Oh, and I don't own and have never owned a stealth heater so I have no idea if they are the best or worst. Best thing you can do is to hook up any heater to a separate temp controller.

Funny thing is, I have 2 wal-mart heaters that I use for my WC reservoir and they have been running for several years without problem. Couldn't tell you what I have in my DT though. I just replace both of them every year when I replace my bulbs and keep them controlled with my Apex. I have 2 or 3 of them and generally give them away to fellow club folks that need them for RO/WC stations.
