Oxymonacanthus longirostris pair enters a mixed reef environment

I hope you'll all forgive me for changing gears for a minute.

I picked up a Pervagor melanocephalus yesterday and have it in my 10gal QT. It was eating mysis with vigor at the LFS and it continues to do so in the QT. At the shop, they happened to have a mis-ordered OSFF in a tank on the same system as the orange-tail (I really had to fight the urge to "rescue" the OSFF. I just don't have the time to try to train one right now.) I asked them to put the orange-tail in with the OSFF to see if there would be any aggression. There was not. They checked eachother out a bit.

So, I bought the fish. I'm considering putting it in the 75 gallon reef but I am wondering what it may nibble, in particular, I'm concerned about my RBTA, but I would hope the clowns would defend it.

Anyone have experiences with this other amazing file?

Cheers.

Thanks, Renee. I'm wondering what kind of "not reef safe" they are. Do they eat shrimp and crabs? Do they nibble stuff like dwarf angels? What corals do they typically go after?

At this point I'm not really worried about my population softies, leathers, etc. Mostly my RBTA. I did notice the fish try to nip the arm of a mini brittle star in the QT.

Anyone keep this file with invertebrates? Thanks.

That's what mine looks like. It is a gorgeous and very interesting looking fish. It's also a total chow hound.

Unfortunately, I noticed a small, light patch on it's nose this morning. Glad it's in QT. We'll see what happens with that.

Got some weird behavior from my female today. I thought she was dead, hadn't seen her and the lights had been on for ~5 hours. I saw the tip of her tail hanging out from under a rock in the back of the tank, went to pull out a corpse and I swear it scooted away. Looked later and saw the tip of her tail coming out from behind another rock... a few inches off the sand, so I'm assuming she was just sleeping... hopefully she's ok.
