Another thing to consider is that hypo does not always work.

The problem I see with hypo is that more often then not, people who treat with hypo end up having another outbreak a few weeks or months later. Im really not convinced it is very effective at all.

Now I read this... I had a tank full of fish, and bam - ich. Lost a majority of my fish before I could get a QT up and running. Anyway, I kept my powder brown tang in 1.009 salinity in the QT for 9.5 weeks, and an additional 2.5 weeks after that to raise salinity and monitor. During that time, the display had no fish in it. I re-acclimated the tang to the display again. Within 2 weeks, he had spots again. How is that possible? Man, I hate ich...I really do.

I'll have to read up on ich, which sounds persistant, to say the least. I had a pair of tangs for years (purple and yellow, separately) that never had a problem. They died a year or so ago. Anyway, I've got a new regal tang and am crossing my fingers it's clean -- my tank is ich-free for sure.

BTW: I run low level UV 24/7 (9watts for approx. 150 gals) along with ozone at set to 350 for a few days a week. If I go above 350 with ozone, the tank water just seems TOO clear and clean --- as if it were sterilized, which is partly true come to think of it. So 350 feels right for me, but I imagine that 400 and above would DEFINATELY eliminate and algae problems! Question for "deeznuts": do you run ORP levels this high 24/7 or just wash your tank with ozone once or twice a month?

the ozone is run twice a month just to keep algae away.
normal ORP level is 320-340
