Ozone & PH

hey all,

Just installed an ozone setup into my tank config....

1) does ozone lower PH? my PH has gone from 8.21 to a dramatic 7.95...

i don't think anything has died in my tank, but wondered if it might be related to the ozone.

i currently have my controller at 150; planned for a week, then raising it to 200-250 in a week or two.

2) the instruction manual suggested an 'airstone/airwood'... how do the rest of you get your ozone into your tank?

thanks!

No ozone does not affect pH. But pH affects your ozone reading. Lower pH higher ORP. Higher pH, lower ORP.

I inject my ozone through my skimmer.

You should have the output of the ozonized water pass through activated carbon before it returns to your tank. Otherwise you run the risk of burning your fishes gills.

How many mv are you injecting and what size tank ?

well you don't want ozone "in your tank", what you want is to mix it up with tank water and then rapidly remove it. A skimmer or ozone tower are good for mixing it with the water, skimmer is nice because you can hook the ozone output to your venturi input, and both offer convient output locations where you can run a bunch of carbon to remove excess ozone.

I run ozone through a skimmer via a controller, with the skimmer effluent passing through carbon, as Billybeau1 suggests. It's nice with ozone the skimmer runs so dry you don't have to clean the cup as often.

how lucky...

i normally put a bag of carbon in a media bag on the skimmer exit...

well, since my PH doesn't seem ozone related (unless something died :eek1: )...

what a relief and stress, at the same time! haha.

this is our hobby, isn't it?
