form my understanding its a waste of money. Randy Holmes-Farley, used one for experimental purpose in Reef Chemistry forum. did very little to nothing except cost $$$. they also need a power supply. REEF-ON!!!

You need an Ozone generator ($40 - $250) depending on what brand you want. Search for Enaly. An Ozone safe protien skimmer and an ORP controller (about $100) to control the ozone generator. Makes the water crystal clear and if you have mold or a musty smell in your house or basement you can hook it to an air pump and let it run for about an hour and it will kill mold and mildew.

I wouldnt call ozone a waste of money. my tank has never been clearer, my nitrates went from about 5ppm to totally undetectable (salifert) and ozone can aid in the removal of pathogens similar to a uv sterilizer. however, can you have a thriving reef without one? yes.

the embellish upon what summitpa said. I was having terrible allergies on occasion and the best cause I could come up with was the new 200 gallon reef tank because of the timing. Since i added the ozone. NO ALLERGIES.
