Pagoda tissue receeding

I have a pagoda cup coral in my tank that looks like the tissue is receeding. The polyps still extended but it has lost a few where i can see the skeleton. It has gotten worse over a period of a month. I have had it in the tank for a year. My nitrates and phosphates (hanna meter) are near zero, salinity is 1.026, calcium 440, and alk 9. I run gfo and dose vinegar. I have a few sps that are doing fine. The rest of my lps are doing good. I feed the pagoda once a week. It takes the food fine. I have an ati six bulb fixture over a 90 gallon tank, which i have had for two months. The pagoda is at the bottom of the tank. My light is 10" off the surface. Could it be too much light? To little nitrates? Why is the tissue receeding? Thanks for any ideas

Well my 2 cents. I have had a pagoda coral for over 10 years. I have never been one for perfect water or anything else in that matter. Pagodas do not like really intense light. You could be burning the coral. I have never dosed vinegar so i have no experience there.they like dirtier water than you have but doubt that is the problem. i would have to say lighting or the vinegar. You have to be careful with gfo also. i would say nitrates are not the problem. What are your lighting parameters. I have a 120 gallon with 175 w 14k hamilton and vho actinics running. It is a 120 gallon.

If you had it for over a year also what could of changed in that time? Lighting, water, water flow? Something to think about. Just a suggestion. :spin1:

How long have you been dosing vinegar while running GFO? Sometimes those two aren't the best combination... I think that's probably not it though. How are you testing your salinity, and when was the last time you calibrated it?

I'm using a refractometer the salinity is spot on. The rest of my corals are fine. I have an elegance, couple brain corals, a different pagoda, and many sps with no problems. Maybe the nutrient level is too low

my pagode does not like direct lighting. its all the way to the side of the tank. and is flourishing.

I'm using a refractometer the salinity is spot on.

When was the last time you calibrated it with calibration fluid out of curiosity? I was having similar issues recently, turns out my refractometer was off by .004.

Couple weeks ago i calibrated it. My elegance and my sps are fine. I would think they would be showing signs of stress before pagoda.

Very true, I'm at a loss then... Chances are it's just too much light, best of luck with it though, I hate those mystery coral problems

Pagoda corals do like a nutrient load in the tank. REALLY clean water is a no, no. My water is not pristine. Your lights are only T5 so lighting should not be a problem.I didn't read your lighting last time i was on. I would get rid of that vinegar dosing if i were you or take the pagoda out of the tank. On a lighter note, pagodas do recover from tissue recession so if it does stop they will come back.
