Painting and tank

My wife is painting the room where my tank is, what should be done so it doesn't kill my fish?

Yes, especially when she knocks over the paint bucket while painting the wall above the tank.

Covering the tank is good.
Running the airline on your skimmer outside so it is not sucking in fumes.

That would be horrible.

Consider painting the area around the tank first, while you still have patience for the project, and don't use anything heavy above it. Spills are bad and cracks are worse.

A fan pointed out the window wouldn't hurt either. Try to keep as much fresh air going through the room as possible.
