Pairing Blue Jaw Triggers

I just saw a single male blue jaw trigger for sale. I was thinking about getting it. I want to eventually add a female. Does anyone have any experience pairing them up? I was thinking I would add the female later an keep her in a critter keeper for a couple of days in the tank so that the male can get used of seeing her.

It can be done but is up to them...lol
I would add the female first and let her get comfy in the tank...

They are nice trigs but can be very shy...
Some mention they don't see theirs...

My male is showing female coloration currently...
he is a very bold fish, out and visible all the time and I love him but....hey would probably be one of the last fish I would ever recommend to anybody, lol...
Just my .02 and please feel free to ignore...
but I find them to be very boring fish...
and many times the male loses his beautiful color and they are not seen...

I added both mine at once and the male was smaller to curve out aggression...I would add the female first if u looking at trying to bond them. My male was aggressive for bout a week and they they no longer have the domestic violence...good luck.

I know but my LFS has a male and I was thinking of trading a batch of baby clowns for it. What do you think of the critter keeper idea?

I added my male first, then the female a month later. My female picked on the male for about a week then stopped. A month later when they left QT and went into the DT, the tables turned and the male harassed her terribly for 4 1/2 months. Eventually he was slightly larger than her and the violence stopped. Now they are inseparable and sleep together behind the same rock.

They were both very shy for the first week, now are out and about constantly playing in the power head currents. They even follow me around begging for food. When I open the canopy they spit at me until I drop in the shrimp.

I guess I got lucky. Neither of mine are shy...

Best of Luck!!!

Me too. IMO; BJ Triggers lack everything that make triggers so appealing, IMO. Many folks on this forum ask what they can do to get their BJ out and about.

More on the subject; I haven't kept these fish in years and don't have my notes from back then. But, I had the male and just added the quarantined female. They hid from each other for quite a while and were fine after that.

Don't know ifthis makes a difference or not, but both of mine came from the same store in Atlanta. Purchased at separate times from separate shipments. Both are bold as heck and not shy at all...

Probably another of the countless "individual fish" scenarios. They are nice looking fish and can fit into a tank where you'd probably not trust any other trigger. Glad they're doing well for you.
