Pairing a maroon with anything other than another maroon is a bad idea. Even pairing two maroons has its potential for trouble. I can't say that its impossible to pair two different types of clowns because I have a female clarkii and a male sebae that are paired. I would suggest reading the sticky on pairing clowns, its very helpful.
