'pairing' clown gobies

I have a yellow in my 75. I'd like to consider another since I really enjoy the one. I would think in a 75 I'd likely be OK with two, even if they didn't pair, but I'd like to hear some feedback before I do so. also,I know there are genetic differences between the different color gobies, but if I were to get perhaps a green rather than another yellow, is that likely to have any effect on compatibility?

I had three yellows in my 75 at one point for about two years . they squabbled a lot at first then settled down throughout the tank in individual territories . They are funny little fish

lots of personality in mine, thats for sure. always out front. yesterday he was doing 'barrel rolls'. he got a new acro to hang out in, and i swear the barrel rolls were excitment.

I dont know how to do this, wish I did. I recently decided to give it a try, will let you know in a few months how it worked out. I added 2 yellow clown gobies to a fishless 30Gallon reef tank about a week ago. They havent fought with each other but they arent hanging out with each other either.

I did a lot of research/work in college on breeding gobies. From what I remember, even if you have a compatible "pair," they still prefer their own territories. The female will likely visit a male's area to lay some eggs and maybe stay a day or two after that, but they dont like to live together the same way that other "paired" fish do.

In this way, I think you are fine to add one or more of any variety. That said, I have never owned these fish more than one per tank (only because I had them in a small tank).

sounds like its feasible then. i will likely give it a shot, with one other.. possibly green... and see how it goes. seems a four foot tank should allow for two territories. although i'm kind of still afraid, since i really do like my little guy a lot. lol

If hoping for a pair, does anyone know if adding two clown gobies at the same time is preferable to adding them separately at different times? I've been thinking of getting two for to my 72g tank as well in hopes of them possibly pairing up...

I have a yellow and a green in my 20 nano/frag tank without any problems. They were added at the same time and actually sit next to each other sometimes...

I have kept lots of them together in a large tank. The issue with them is when they pair up they like to make a nest. The nest means they find your favorite and largest acro and then pull a bunch of flesh off in the middle of it.

I find that with the different colors they don't seem to pair up and the acros are safe.

I just put them together and see what happens. These have been spawning for months. The eggs are in between them

Here is a new born

thanks Paul. i had seen your pair before, and they are awesome. i'm pretty sure i'm going to give this a shot, just haven't seen any that look healthy lately.
