after 4*and a half years of having a pair of ocellaris clownfish or could be false percs (the pair was given to me) my female past away today. I was wondering if i go to the lfs can i get another clown? I was doing some reading and as long as i get the smallest clown in the tank i should be ok right? Or should i let time pass and start over again when my male does die? can i add a black ocellaris instead? Last question is i am pretty sure i dont remember what typy of clown i have. Osc or percs? Does it matter?***

FWIW I just paired my Black Oc (althpugh it is young) with an orang oc. My black was paired but its partner died from internal parasites. Only took about 12 hours of the black nipping at the orange, and now they are buddies. The orange was definately smaller though, and probably young enough to not have determined a sex yet.

I waited almost a month. It just didn't seem right to have a lonely clown to me, although it seemed perfectly happy alone. I would just make sure that if you get a new one, make sure that it is a very young juvenile, or it is a male from know pair (not sure if you could break a pair up at your LFS or not). Everything I read said it's basically a gamble though. My tank is only a 20 so they have to get along, but if your tank is larger at least the new one can get away if it wants to.

So I added a new clown to my tank. I got the smallest one I could about a half inch long and within 2 days he died? I never once saw my Older clown pick on him unless he did it at night when the lights were off. When I added the juvenile clown fish the older clown did not seem to care much that he was there. From time to time he would charge at him but never bit at his fins or anything. He would also push him up towards the top as well. After I took the dead juvenile clown out I still did not notice any missing fins or marks? Is this normal? Should I try again later?
