Pajama or bangai Cardinal questions

Hello all,
I have a 120 gallon reef with a huge amount of Amphipods (the big shrimp like ones- NOT copepods). The amphipods go crazy at night and have eaten a few of my zoos so I am trying to find a fish to control them. I do have a manadarin Dragonet who eats copepods all day but these Amphipods are too big for him.

I also have a Leopard Wrasse who will eat the Amphipods he hunts during the day but most of them are hiding during the day when he is feeding. At night, he is buried in the sand sleeping as are my other fish (2 clowns, yellow tang, hippo tang, 5 green chromis).

Anyway, I am looking for a nocturnal amphipod hunter and narrowed it down to the cardinals. My question is how many to get? I know many LFSs say they like to school but have heard so many stories of them getting bigger and then killing each other until they are down to a mated pair or just one "survivor". If I get 2 small ones will one turn female, like the clowns or should I just get one? Or has anyone had success with a group for many years? Thanks in advance!
