PALE SPS!!! BRS gfo and carbon maybe?

When you do not use gfo, you need to find a way of exporting nutrients in other ways, such as using GAC and macro algae, not to mention protein skimming.

how do you guys get phosphates consistent?

I find if I run my gfo reactor all the time that it strips the water clean

I try using less GFO and it just runs out faster and still strips it clean

I don't run the reactor and things look good but then my phosphates shoot up to high levels like .4

My sps seem to be doing fine for now Its just a headache to keep testing phosphates to see whether I should turn my reactor on or not

I know what you mean. Your tank parameters will always changes!!!
I think the most important is the finding the right regimen for you tank.

Maybe you could use much smaller amount of GFO and replace it every two weeks.

water change and usage is the only way to lower ALK.
if your ALK gets too high, its major problems. if it gets too low, things look poor and then receed, but recover easier.

to raise your ALK, you can dose, and raise instantly (backing soda, or alk powder)

check your water change water, because most "REEF" salts have high ALK and CAL so thats also why it takes soo much water change to lower such a small amount.

i keep mine 8-9 because corals will tell you when its too low and a easy dose is all you need.
while too much becomes a major problem......

Updates? I have a similar issue but my corals are still colorful/more pale but with less PE.
Removed GFO, Carbon, and turned off biopellets. Additional livestock and coral/fish feeding has not seemed to be enough.
