Palys taking over

Ahh, those green palys look so nice, I'll take a few...
Fast forward 1 year: "œOMG these palys are over taking all my other corals!!!"
I have a super low nutrient tank, just due to a crazy productive fuge. I send in ICP tests and get back that Nitrates are below detection levels. How do I rid myself of these palys, now that they are growing so much? Since they are on base rock, I can't just replace the rock without a massive re-scape.

Nothing you can really do besides removing the rocks..

Use caution Palys can be very...very toxic.. Do not disturb them or they can/will release toxins into the water and air,etc...

I think unless your willing to restart over your sorta SOL from a safety standpoint except maybe if your brave & confident do this:

Only way id even consider it would be on a perfect weather day, ALL windows open..... with a window fan sucking towards the outside & a seriously good respirator for chemical toxins on along with to the armpits vinyl gloves, Vet style types. And then id remove all the offending rocks slowly & carefully to 5gal water filled buckets, then move them outside downwind with lids on them.
From there you can do whatever you want new rock in DT etc....Id personally pre treat the new dead rock for a few months first to fully cycle it then do all this after its ready to go in tank.
Then never add Palys again.............................

I use a hypodermic needle filled with vinegar and hit one or 3 heads a day til the colony is gone.

Ask the ones on this forum who "survived" palytoxin & still are recovering & see what response they have to say about it..............Better to have & not need then to need & not have when Palytoxin may be involved. It IS biochemical warfare.........

this, its a lot of work though. I ended up throwing another rock away. No more soft corals.

Chaetodon kleinii, if we're spell checking... I would be pretty nervous to introduce that, given I have a beautiful clam, hammer, rics, and some fun zoas.
or, I need to just give up the mixed tank idea and go all SPS.

Explain the vinegar idea. Just inject them with distilled vinegar, a few at a time? I don't have a needle. Just the one that came with my AiptasiaX bottle.

You can not kill....... a few years ago pulled all pally rock and left outside in freezing temps for 4 days.On the fifth day put rock in ro-di and vinegar .Then scrubbed the dead carcasses off. In a few months they started to pop out.Now it is a full blown invasion ........
