Parameter Checking before drinking coffee

I am an idiot and was testing Alk and Calc this morning. Got through my Alk, and grabbed the wrong bottle of reagent (Red Sea Pro) and pushed the remaining Alk regent into the Calc reagent bottle. *facepalm*

I just ordered two Hanna checkers overnighted to be here tomorrow.

That was a fun $140 mistake.

We all make mistake, plenty more will be made I'm sure. As far as things go that's a fairly cheap one though. On the bright side gave you an excuse to get some checkers. Personally love my Hannah alk checker, super simple and fast.

When I test I'll bring out what I'm testing for but will only open one box at a time.

Totally a good way to look at it. I've wanted to get Hanna checkers for a while (I finally added coral after setting up my tank in January) since I am testing and dosing Alk and Calc for my mixed reef. I was going to wait until I was out of reagents of the Red Sea kit, which would have been at the end of the summer. Well...guess my mistake speeded up my process.

Pic of my tank because we all love reef tanks!

Looking very nice!

I think once you receive your checkers you'll be glad you made the oopsie lol I try to find some positive in my mistakes so I don't feel as bad about them.

I use salifert for my test but one the alk ran out I decided to get the Hannah since I'd heard so many good things. Once my phosphate runs out I'll be getting the hannah url.

Lol one time I thought it would be a good idea to store my Hanna alk checker on my calcium reactor next to the sump (flat surface, right?) and accidentally knocked it into the water. Those don't work again when you dry them out.

My biggest DOH moment though was after cleaning the wet side of my MP40. Went to put it back in the tank. Plopped the dry side in and stuck the wet side on the outside. Sat there a minute and thought.....something seems odd here.

Turns out that if you do that. You can (unplug first) soak the dry side in rodi water to get the salt out, disassemble it, put it in the hot Texas sun. Reassemble a day later. And it works like the day you got it

I bet that would look rather odd, are they still quiet when outside the tank lol

I've been lucky with my tank so far, worse thing I've done is turn the skimmer on without the return pump running and walk away allowing it to overflow everywhere. I am notorious for flooding my kitchen usually once a week. I fill my wc bucket and 1g jug from a 50g brute with a piece of hose I draw vac on. Well I forget to set an alarm or reminder and usually walk away to return 10-15min later with water all over the floor.

Hey at least your "mistake" didn't wipe out corals and livestock. I'd be ok with that kind of blunder!

Yep the mistake would have been next time when testing, and then you would or could have freaked out thinking your parameters where all off...next thing you do would be over dose something.

Your mistake was just an accident, better the test than your inhabitants!

Bummer but at least you didn't grab the wrong solo cup after having a few & getting a swig of thawed RODS!
(Like I did)

Haha y'all are killing me!

I just got my new kits so now I am going to make extra sure I don't make this mistake again!
