Hello

please, ID this parasite on my PJ Cardinal

had him and other 3 in 20g QT for 2 months,

1 week prazipro
1 week watching
4 weeks cupraime
1 week watching
1 week Maracyn

still has these white puffs.

it looks like a tiny cotton ball.

when 4 weeks of Cupramine finished, there was nothing on the fish, and I waited for 1 week to see if they will be ok. Then the white stuff appeared on the top fin, then tail and now on pectoral fin.

another fish has one spot on pectoral fin only.

any ideas?

thank you

Looks like Lymphocystis to me, a virus with no known cure. It's the herpes of the fish world - it will come & go; flare up from time to time.

Only thing you can really do is soak his food in vitamin supplements (Selcon, Zoecon, Vita-chem) to give the ol' immune system a boost. Keeping the water clean with frequent WCs may help his immune system as well.

To any mod reading this: Would it be possible to create a sticky about Lympho? Since so many people encounter it/ask questions about it, it would be good to have a sticky to just point them to.

Thank you for quick reply

is it very contageous? meaning, if I transfer all PJs to DT and I have 10 other fish there, will they get affected?

also, i have pair of cleaner shrimp and pair of blood shrimps, will they clean this parasite?

Whether or not it is contagious is debatable. However, a large percentage of fish seem to have it and live with it just fine. I've seen cleaner shrimp eat it off - and sometimes rip it off, fin & all! :eek1: But whether or not you actually see it, odds are the fish will have the virus for the rest of it's life. FWIW; Lympho has never stopped me from putting a fish in the DT.
