If you have the same watts... say 96 watts.... the t5ho's will be much more bright and intense especially if you are running individual reflectors. T5ho's get something like 95% of the light into the tank... far better than pc's.

I could be wrong on the numbers so don't quote me
pc - 35 lummens per watt
t5- 75 per watt
MH -85 per watt.
So assuming your numbers are correct, I could basically say that 200 watts of T5 would be the relative equal of 400 watts of PC? Or is it more complicated than that?
I have never read any published article where they compare the output of T5 vs PC lights. All the information floating around is hearsay.
So this is my story:
A few months ago I spoke to a tech at Current USA about their T5 Nova light. I was interested in the 24" 96 watt unit to replace my 130 watt PC unit. The tech said the T5 light was about 30% brighter than the PC light. Based on his statement I would need 130% more watts than the 130 watt PC light delivered to equal the output of the 96 watt T5 unit. So 96 watts of T5 would have the same output as 170 watts of PC, 1 watt T5= 1.75 watts PC.
