PE Mysis Cubes

Ok so here's the story. I bought a package (the smaller flat package) of shrimp from PE mysis and it was terrific they were big enough to dip in cocktail sauce and my fish loved them, the clowns even had to bite the larger ones in half to swallow them.

However, the last two packages I bought (all the cubes btw) have been dust. I unthaw the cubes under warm water and then toss it in and pieces go everywhere not a single whole shrimp in the cube.

Am I just stupid and its written on the package that you only get shrimp pieces in the cubes as opposed to the packages? Or did I just get bad packages?

Has anyone else had this problem?

p.s. Sorry if this is in the wrong forum I couldn't find another place to put it.

Hello
yes to me as well the cubes seem like smaller ones.

they are still mysis shrimp.

cubes are alot more expensive though . I always get the largest pack they have.

HTH,

So maybe its just that they use smaller ones in the cube packages, I haven't bought the sheets since the first one but I am disappointed with the cubes they just polluted my tank with shrimp pieces.

I thought they would be more convenient than the sheet version as i feed my fish lots of different foods and a package lasts a long time.

did you thaw it , the same way you thaw the sheets ?

I usually place it in a small cup of RO/DI water, and let it float for 4 mins, and then stir and drain the cloudy water.

maybe you are breaking it into pieces ...

I thought that might be the problem but I thaw all my stuff the same way, in a net under warm water the brine shrimp look like shrimp still as do the blood worms, plankton, and smaller hikari mysis.

Don't ever thaw in warm water. You're destroying the food and wasting all it's nutritional value. Toss it in the fridge over night and let it thaw slowly. You'll have much better results.

How long can food stay in the fridge for? If I forget to feed it or the food thaws quickly? how do I get rid of the excess moisture that comes in the frozen blocks?

When i feed PE mysis(daily), i just snap off a small piece from the flat packs and soak it with some tap water in a small bowl. then i drain it out with a spoon and then add a little bottle water(which is RO) in it. feed it real quick then put it back in the fridge. Sometimes I will add some Selcon. Usually I thaw enough for that day and the following day.

Now when I feed regular mysis from the flat pack or any kind of frozen cubes, I just add a little bottle water and thats it. Put it back in the fridge what I dont feed.

It should be good for a couple of days once it's thawed. Just smell it... you can tell when it goes bad (usually turns black as well). Make sure not to refreeze any after it's thawed.
