PE only at night

I have really good PE at night but none while lights are on. Corals look real healthy and are growing good. Is there any tricks to get them out while lights are on? Any suggestions????

Thanks

Yep.Maybe u can try to feed them while lights on.
In my case the lights caused them not extend.
My have the same situation before.
I try to lift up the lights about 12" and the PE are improving.

I doubt it with what you have but I haven't used T5's. I use the same Ushios on my 90 and have great PE.

at first maybe... but after a bit it shouldnt matter they will acclimate....
Mine polyp out alot more at night but everything is heavily polyped during day also...

I had the same problem. It turned out to be my bi-color blenny. I never saw him bothering any corals but several RC members pointed to him as the problem. Once I got him out, polyps are extended all the time. Check your list of fish and see if you might have any culprits.

I almost have my 120 set up. If you get to Cape, let me know and you can come by to check things out.

How long did it take for your polyps to come out during the day? I have a blueface angel that I'm leaning towards as the culprit, but would like to know how long I would need to remove him to confirm...

Id put money on the angel

Godd suggestions from fellow reefers...just keep in mind different sub-species of acro's have different poyply extension....like a green slimer poylps out more in the day than the night ....but most stags, and other acros will always have good PE at night.....as a general rule most acros should show small PE during the day...if no PE day or night...maybe preditor...or like SOOOOO many reefers now know the nasty red bugs can cause very little PE.....

Been freed of the bondage of red bugs;

.... I have red bugs currently and still have awesome PE during day and night... I guess I am the lucky one.. I am debating treatment but if it isnt broken.....

anyway a whole nother post involved with that...

Interceptor my friend...they are definatly 100% part of your PE problem..maybe not entire cause, but huge contibuter to it....

Trust me red bugs in time will cause you great grief.....may even take over a year to catch up to you.....I lost thousands in acros because I thought...heck don't look like there hurtin anything to bad.....well boom they did.....

I treated seperatly.....Q-tank/interceptor 3 times the dose for 7 straight days...it killed them ALL to say the least....now those acros are doing AWSOME!!!! PE like I've never seen...and color improvent is not even comparable.....

So if they seem harmless now...just give em a bit of time to mass reproduce and you will think like I do....."man I should have nuked em earlier....

FWIW ...I q-tanked over 100 acros....was a little work...but better than adding full stengh to my main reef tanks...even though I rinsed them...still enough meds to hurt a shrimp and a few hermits and emeralds....to I say hurt I meant kill...

I dont have a PE problem I was posting about his... too many of mine are encrusted so when I do dose it will be the entire tank... luckily enough friends around to babysit my mated cleaners... pods ah who cares... anyway quik question a different friend mentioned to me today as I was asking the other one to watch my shrimp that I had to remove my anemone... I had never read that and he is fairly new to reefing so I wasnt to concerned but before I went to reading the million pages of interceptor I thought I would ask....

Not to jack the thread, but can you see red bugs with the naked eye? I too am having horrible PE... At first when I bring a coral home, It looks great, the PE that is. Then after about 3 days, nothing. I am getting a little at night but not like when first introduced!!! My corals are growing nicely and seem to be healthy. I get about an inch growth on my stonies every two months. My digi's,pocilapora's and other sps are all showing daytime PE, just not the acro's???? Its very concerning to some.

I am either leaning twards red bugs or my parameters being off from time to time. Right now I am battling high alk. My PH during the day is around 8.2 but tested the alk yesterday and the alk was DKH of 5.3 (OUCH!!!) Calcium was 400... I am running a kalk reactor during the day but can't seem to get the alk down????

????

OH yeah, my fish consist of the following? Incase any of you have the same?

1 purple orchid dotty back
1 scooter blenny (dragonette?)
1 yellow tailed damsel
1 figi devil damsel
2 clarkki clowns
1 coral beauty ( This is a hit or miss, but for the most part, I have never seen her go after any corals what so ever?)

Thanks.

My fish list is as follows:
Naso Tang,Hippo Tang,Maculosis Angel(juv). Coral Beauty,3 anthias, clarkii clown and true perc. Also have serpent stars and sally lightfoot crab. I have not seen one fish mess with any of the corals but the crab seems to crawl around them quite often. How can you tell if it's red bugs? All my SPS grow extremely fast. I just wantt to see the PE during the day.

As far as feeding them.... I don't feed them at all. Fish poo is there food and I can't control that. If I started feeding during the day what type of foods should I use that won't make my skimmer go nuts.

Thanks
