Peaceful Tank Addition

My 72 gallon tank, when ready, will be stocked with peaceful (and mostly small) fish... Percula's, Chromis, Firefish/Gobies, and possibly a Mandarin if I can get my fuge to grow live food stuffs.

I'm going to stock very slowly (live rock, corals, shrimp, snails, etc. etc. are already in the tank and doing great, but no fish yet)..

Even after tons of research, I just can't decide on something that fits the following criteria:

1. Compatible with above fish.
2. Reef safe. Can't take a chance with corals or inverts.
3. Fit in my 4 foot long, 72 gallon bow.
4. Compete as little as possible with my Mandarin.
5. Be something pretty :thumbsup:

lamarck's angels are nice. A bit plain though, IMO.. although I remember wanting one for about 4 months straight back when I had a different tank. I'll put him on the list of possibilities :)
 
Yep, the first Lamarck's I saw was in a fish store swimming gracefully in the tank. I agree. The Swallowtail is a bit better looking, IMHO.

That's a nice Tang as well. The main reason not to get a tang (for me) is the four foot tank length. I might end up going with a Yellow Tang because they don't swim back and forth continuously like other tangs do. They seem to pick and graze, then move on to the next stop.

I never ordered livestock online - have you ordered fish from bluezoo before? That's a good looking fish, btw ...
 
I've heard nothing but good things about livestock with Blue Zoo and Live Aquaria. I'd be 100% comfortable ordering from them, however I try to support the local LFS whenever possible.

Shipping is usually pretty expensive with online vendors, although I think Blue Zoo is offering free shipping if you spend $140. That's a great deal considering you'll have to spend $40 on overnight shipping normally.
 
I had a Fathead anthias previously. I felt like it hid too much, and they need lots and lots of food fed constantly. Don't get me wrong. They're beautiful fish and I like them.

Looking for something that's a bit bigger and active though. I had considered a Blotched anthias as well, but they're rumored to eat ornamental shrimp when they get bigger.

Me too - I'm lucky I have 4 excellent stores where I am (NJ) & one that is not very close but every specimen is primo!

What about a bird wrasse, tons of energy and always personable?

This weekend you only have to spend $99 to get free shipping at Blue Zoo. Even their regular $140 to get free shipping is a really good deal.

I would consider getting a peaceful fairy wrasse. They look awesome and should get along with your other fish.

Bird wrasses get way too big for a tank that size.
 
I also didn't think Bird Wrasses were reef safe?

$99 for free shipping? Are they making any money? I wish I could take off some time from work to pick up the livestock. If I could work that out, I'd definitely order a number of corals and possibly a fish or 2.. :(

Sorry, i didn't either...they just always stood out as a larger active fish. :lolspin:
 
The Genicanthus angels really need a bigger tank too. They are very active and use every little bit of open water.

You could always get one of the smaller tangs, like a tomini or kole.

Yellow Coris Wrasse *will do great to help with pests*

What about a Pyramid butterfly? Is it necessary to keep them in a schoal or small group? If so, that will rule them out.

Also, I saw a few had mentioned wrasses. Let's talk about those a bit more...
