Peaceful Tank Addition

Pyramid butterflies are really active too, but you might be able to squeeze one in there. I have 2 in my 180 and they swim around the whole tank constantly.

There are many fairy or flasher wrasses that would fit in your tank nicely. Depending on your budget, you could get a pair of flame wrasses. If you don't want to spend that much a lubbock's wrasse would be nice.

Im a fool for carpenter flahsers my self. I actually had one for awhile in QT (it had some bad paraisite problems, the LFS actually inquired about its health. When i told them it died in QT, they offered a full replacement/refund because all there's died as well.). Instead though, i went with a Lubbock's Fairy which is doing much better...but hiding quite a bit more.

So you want completely reef safe and peaceful, but not timid at all? Ouch.

I think that the yellow Assessors are beautiful, and they are available captive bred, but they aren't large and their natural environment includes caves. They are considered seahorse compatible, so that should give you an idea of how passive they are.

Speaking of, flagfin pipefish are peaceful fish, although they will be eat pods (just like a mandarin.) They are reef safe, but I would not house them with really aggressive stinging corals or anemones. Then again, I wouldn't tank a mandarin with those inverts, either.

There are various diurnal cardinalfish, less common chromis and damsels, wrasses, and even Western Atlantic fish like the chalk bass that are peaceful and make nice display animals.

One more thing about wrasses, is that you MUST have somesort of cover over the tank. It is guaranteed that if you get a fairy or flasher wrasse it WILL jump eventually. You might get lucky and have it not happen for a while, or it might jump the first night. I don't want to be a pessimist, but I have seen and heard of it happening too many times.

Haha. They can be timid. I just want them to be OK with Chromis and Wrasses that swim a bit actively, that's all. :)

As for the Mandarin, I'm going to have to put him/her on the back burner. I'd like one, but I'm going to have aggressive corals and an anemone in the tank, so that could create problems.

Thanks for the help!

IFbettas, I have a great cover on my tank, so hopefully jumping won't be an issue :)

a two spot (candy stripe) hog fish. They are gorgeous and very active and fun to watch. They only get 5 inches maybe. I added on a couple months agot to my 72 reef adn an very happy with him. He eats like a pig and has been growing fast. He is with other peaceful fish and shows no aggression.

thats' a good idea. Not really too large, but a nice colorful addition. as for the 'centerpiece,' I'll keep searching.
I'm leaning toward getting a Leopard Wrasse instead of the Mandarin. I know they're difficult, but I'll be ready for them by the time I buy. Tons of reading (and pod/micro snails/etc) production and tank maturing first.

+1 on the candystripe hogfish.
Mine is very personable and curious. He has a hole in a rock where he sleeps.
Here's mine from when I first got him. He's fatter now.
